Dwarf Bunny: A new member of the family!

Dwarf Bunny: A new member of the family!

In recent years very popular animals are dwarf bunnies or midgets. It is of course a breed that does not grow much like productive rabbits and usually reaches 1.5 - 2 kg. In addition to being beautiful, they are very friendly with people and especially with children, who have unimaginable fun with them. But be careful, like all animals, they are not toys. They need love and affection, but they also need some quiet hours and a space where they can move comfortably. When we see our bunny stretching all four of his legs, it means that at that moment he does not want us to disturb him. We can pet it some other time when it is in the mood to play.

How should we keep the dwarf rabbit?

It is wrong to lift the bunny by the ears. This is done for our convenience and not because they don't hurt. Hold the rabbit firmly by the skin behind the shoulder blade and support it by its legs with the other hand. If we want to carry it, we place one hand on the neck, so that we can catch it if it wants to jump.

Accommodation:

His little house should be as big as possible. Bunnies love movement, so they need plenty of space to move around comfortably. Also their cage should be high enough for them to jump. Minimum dimensions of a rabbit cage are considered to be 80x50x40cm. Our dear friend's ancestors lived in caves. That is why it is good to have a sleeping house in his cage where he can hide at any time. He also inherited from his ancestors the ability to perceive with his long ears even the smallest noises. So it is best if his cage is in a quiet corner, away from loud noises. Also, away from drafts and fumes - vapours.

In the summer, if we have a garden or balcony, we can place his cage in an airy, but sun-protected part of our balcony or garden. Fresh air is good for them. But be careful in the heat! High temperatures, high humidity as well as sudden temperature change will damage them.

Grooming and cleaning:

Bunnies are clean animals by nature. They don't like baths at all, but they wash themselves, like cats. Only in the spring when they change coat can we comb them now and then with a not too hard brush.

Because the bunnies in the cage do not have the ability to grind their nails, from time to time we should cut them with great care. At Quiko Mega Pet we know how to do it right and we can trim his nails here or show you how to do it yourself.

The cage and its accessories should be cleaned very well and regularly. On the floor of the cage we place straw or shavings which are natural products, which must be renewed at least twice a week. There is also the possibility of using a special pellet that withstands twice as much. The waterer and food containers are cleaned with warm clean water and if necessary with a bottle brush. It is good to do a general cleaning of the cage and its accessories once a month.

Diet:

Homeland of rabbits is the whole earth - everywhere, where there is green. There they built their nests and looked for their food. But since we have them in "captivity" we are obliged to provide them with the best variety of food. You can give a high quality dry food in combination with special straw which is their basic food. After some time when your rabbit has reached adulthood, you can enrich his diet with various fresh fruits and vegetables. Consult one of our veterinarians for details.

At Quiko Mega Pet, you will find cages and houses in various sizes and designs. Our specialized staff can also responsibly inform you about the appropriate diet of your beloved friend. There are commercially available balanced food mixes, which contain all the nutrients and all the vitamins that are important for their growth.

Because our bunnies at home do not sharpen their teeth, as they did in the wild, we can give them hard foods that are available in the market, such as for example special crackers. They take care of "teeth care", they offer employment and treats at the same time.

So with proper nutrition and cleanliness your beloved animal will have a good and happy stay in your home. With your love and care, the bunny remains happy and healthy throughout its life.
